SlabTek™
foundation systems are designed to
require no special soil treatment,
less construction and labor time,
strict quality control, and provide
for future adjustment.
They make use of either drilled
concrete piers or “helical” piers,
to carry the load of the structure
below the active zone to the
structurally stable soils beneath
the surface. Depending on the shape
of the slab footprint, they may
require less piers.
They are designed using the most
technologically advanced finite
element software specifically used
for the design of structurally
supported slabs. They are able to be
designed with a 5” thick slab area,
no interior beams like traditional
“waffle slabs”, and a shallow beam
around the perimeter (optional). As
a result, they require approximately
40% less concrete.
They make innovative and economical
use of post-tension design
reinforcement. The post-tension
cables are “profiled” or draped over
the piers to place the tension where
it maximizes forces where needed.
They are poured on top of the ground
and then raised after the cables are
tensioned to a desired height, with
the patent pending SlabTek™
mechanism, thus isolating the
foundation from future soil
movement. Using the ground as a form
is a very economical process, much
like commercial tilt-wall
construction. They use the same
lifting mechanisms used to lift the
slab, to adjust the height of the
slab in the future if needed.
According to Fred Marshall, the
owner of Advanced Prolift, “I expect
the SlabTek™ technology to
substantially reduce the need for
future foundation repairs. Not only
does the technology provide a cost
effective way to build a suspended
slab, but it also reduces the costs
of lot development, the need for
homeowner foundation maintenance
(foundation watering), and warranty
costs for homebuilders.”
Engineering firms, homebuilders, and
homeowners spend thousands of
dollars annually dealing with claims
resulting from foundation movement
caused by homeowner negligence and
or improper grading during
installation. The long term cost
benefits of a SlabTek™ foundation
system will inevitably reduce long
term costs for all related parties.
